Piney Lakes Environmental Education Centre (2 hours).

This building is a stand alone autonomous building which operates completely on solar energy. It has passive, semi-active and active solar systems as well as other environmental features such as rain water collection, solar pumping, composting toilets, greywater recycling and water sensitive gardens.

Winner of the prestigious Banksia Foundation Award for building in Australia and a commendation in the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Awards, the building is a community focus for education, public awareness as well as a social focus.

There are many innovations in this project and this talk will cover the philosophy and origins of the project as well as the principles behind the building design and the technology used.
