System Boundaries of the Internet
(2 hours).
The system boundaries of the internet relate to the system
boundaries of the human mind - reflecting like a parallel
universe, says Garry Baverstock.
A historical journey from ancient times to the modern era
traces how spatial perception, mental constructs created by
society, and technical break through's changed the way we
communicate.
The barriers created by the evolution of the Western mind
were only defeated when strong minded individuals chose, by
curiosity, to break through conventional thinking to reveal
the truths beyond. Often these truths or new discoveries had
a profound effect on the way we perceive the world and beyond,
and also ourselves in relation to these realms.
The Eastern mind, being more inward looking, tended to effect
human consciousness in the opposite direction. A combination
of the two dispositions of self has lead to a solid perception
of what reality might be.
Correlations of dysfunctional aberrations in some personalities
who display the ineffective or negative aspects of the internet
helps us understand how the internet itself is destined to
evolve. The internet has the power to create a sense of self
within our global community.
The diagrammatic representations presented by Garry are bound
to challenge the conventional mind and provoke a different
way of looking at, and thinking about the internet.
The internet guru's, psychologists, psychiatrists, historians
and ordinary people should find the talk very provoking.
