Introduction
For
over 30 years Garry Baverstock has been designing,
building educating and researching in the field of
ESD. Winning 8 WA Home of the Year, a MBA, 2 James
Hardie, a Greensmart and two Awards of Merit from
the RAIA as well as numerous design competition successes
in the housing design area has seen garry become one
of the important leaders in the field in Australia.
His career has been balanced
by success in Commercial/Institutional Architecture.
The 1990 Australian Design Award and the National
Energy Award 1993, the winner of the CASE competition
1995, the National Banksia Award in 2002 stand as
testimony of his national success.
State recognition coming
with the WA Energy Award 1996 and the WA Environment
Award 2003. Such buildings as the Solar Energy Information
Centre,the Perth Zoo Infrastructure Buildings and
the acclaimed Piney lakes Environmental Education
Centre are among a number of innovative buildings
that have shifted the boundaries for ESD.
With over 50 National
and International papers and publications including
co-authorship of the design manual "Low Energy
Buildings in Australia", along with the active
public and architects' under and post graduate, as
well as professional development education endeavours,
has provided the credentials for his appointment as
Adjunct Associate Professor in Energy Studies at Murdoch
University. He will be instigating and coordinating
a Masters of Environmental Architecture Course planned
to start in 2006, as a collaborative program for UWA,
Curtin and possibly UNSW along with linkage to prominent
overseas universities.
